Maria Dolores Ontiveros

For Maria Dolores Ontiveros, the dream of business ownership started as a hobby — making cakes for her daughters. 
 
They loved the cakes and encouraged their mother to open her own business. This did not come without its challenges. She received discouraging comments from other folks and lacked the funds to pursue business ownership.

By chance, or as Dolores described it “magically”, she saw an ad for WEV’s Emprendimiento class and grant program and contacted WEV immediately. She has since graduated from this entrepreneurship course and was one of the $5,000 grant recipients. She said that at WEV she learned “that dreams become reality” and now feels better equipped to run her business.  

This is just the beginning for Dolores. She said “Now my dreams are becoming a reality. Before they were just dreams”. In the spring of 2022, she attended her first market as a vendor. She hopes to get her name and business better known in the community.
