Coastal View News: WEV Client Kind Cup Launches New Women’s Product

Sixth generation Carpinterian, Christine Brown, has launched Kind Cup, a patent-pending newly designed menstrual cup. Kind Cup uses locally sourced, dye- and toxin-free, high quality materials that keep costs down while reducing waste and was created by Brown with the help of a small group of Carpinteria women including Alison Van Der Kar, Emily Morrill, Helena Littman and Rachel Pallmeyer. Brown was able to bring her product to market, in part, through a $25,000 loan from Women’s Economic Ventures. 

“From the start, the three reasons that compelled me to do this: design functionality; increasing awareness; improving access,” said Brown. “Nights when I was working until 3 a.m. and had eight hours of teaching the next day, what kept me going was realizing that this was a product that could truly make a sustainable impact and difference in someone’s life.” 

Within three weeks of launching, Brown donated 150 cups to the nonprofit Direct Relief to be distributed to low income clients at seven women’s health clinics throughout the United States. 

“Seeing such a strong response and interest from the Direct Relief partners,” added Brown. “My goal is that we can meet future interest and demands with them and other non-profits with creative collaborations, at-cost, as well as donations to the extent we are able as we grow our business.” 

Kind Cups are available for purchase at Pacific Health Foods, Heritage Goods and in Rainbow Bridge in Ojai.
