How it Started

Pam Tanase’s entrepreneurial spirit was instilled in her at a very early age. She said, “My parents guided me towards creating ways to earn money. I had a house cleaning business, horse and dog boarding business and a baby-sitting business prior to college.”

She spent a few years teaching and a decade coaching athletics, then took a break from working when her two children were young. Pam re-entered the work force with her husband when they purchased the territorial rights to develop a massage brand in Southern California. They became the owners and operators of three different Massage Envy locations.  That served as training for them to launch, Workzones, the first coworking club in downtown Santa Barbara, in 2013.

Work with WEV

Upon launching Workzones, Pam and her husband knew they wanted to connect with community organizations that assist entrepreneurs so they reached out to WEV and offered their space for workshops. Soon after, Pam became a member of WEV’s League of Extraordinary Women.

She remembers what inspired her to join: “I recall the excitement of being invited to the breakfast to celebrate WEV winners and they introduced the concept of the League of Extraordinary Women. I knew I needed to be a founding member to support others on their entrepreneurial journey. I felt blessed to be able to make a financial contribution, network with other people that share the same goal of giving back, and to interact with other businesswomen in the community.”

What’s Next

fter celebrating 9 years of their business, and living through a pandemic, Pam and the Workzones team are looking towards the future: “We have a loyal group of members with some having been with us since day 1. I’m proud of the fact that many of our members have built and grown their businesses while in our space. And there’s a core group of current and past members who still get together each week. As more people feel comfortable being with groups in-person, I hope our space can help people connect again and take advantage of the synergy and creativity that comes with meeting in-person rather than on-line.”
