“My entrepreneurial inspiration comes from my mother. She instilled a love of food, hospitality, and sales within me from a very young age. In elementary school I sold drinks and snacks right from my backpack. I learned to cook at home. Over the years she taught me her recipes, and so did my grandmother.” Guidance Moon, WEV client.
Growing up between rural Louisiana and a metropolitan city near Dallas, Texas, Guidance Moon has encountered many challenges and struggles in her life. But throughout it all, she has persevered, “The biggest obstacles have been navigating social Injustice, racism, homelessness, and health issues while trying to build a business.”
After moving to Santa Barbara, Guidance found employment at Momentum Inc. where she taught culinary arts to students with disabilities so they can start their own food businesses. Though the challenges continue, Guidance still has dreams of achieving business ownership like her students have: “I will not give up. I have come too far to give up on my dreams. All I want is to cook and provide for my family.”
